On a day out in Enniskillen last week, I was pleasantly surprised to see a town heaving with activity, with shoppers, tourists and more all milling about the town centre.
Better yet, I thought a Tuesday lunchtime would be a handy enough time to pop in for a bite to eat without a reservation.
How wrong I was - a couple of failed attempts at a few places I liked the look of later, I stumbled upon the equally busy Crowe’s Nest in the town, which luckily enough had room to squeeze me in.
I was a big fan of the interior of this bar and restaurant on High Street, with dim lighting and cosy booths it would make a great spot for a get together with a few friends, some tasty pub grub and a few drinks.
However I was on my lonesome on this occasion, and not ravenous so I ordered a portion of salt and chilli squid and skinny fries.
The squid was great, really crispy and not overly spicy and just hit the spot. It came with a sizable enough salad and the real star of the show - the sriracha mayo.
It’s a bit of a trend nowadays to douse mayonnaise with some sort of spicy red sauce, and I’m a huge fan.
Toss in a portion of really crispy skinny fries, and you’ve got a winning combination.
I have to say that even though it was busy on my visit, the staff were really attentive as well and everything was done with a minimum of fuss.
My bill came to around £12 with a coke included, and while I’m sure there are more affordable lunch options around Enniskillen, all things considered I think it was pretty decent value.
