Revenue officers have seized 1 kg of herbal cannabis, 150,000 illegal cigarettes and over 1,700 litres of alcoholic cocktails over the past week as a result of routine profiling and intelligence-led operations.
On Monday, during routine profiling, officers were searching a convoy of vehicles arriving in from the UK that were bound for a music event in Dublin.
During this search, they seized over 1,700 litres of alcoholic cocktails at the Dublin Port location, because it was undeclared.
The alcohol had an estimated retail value of more than €23,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €12,000.
Separately, on Monday officers ran an intelligence-led operation that targeted an air cargo consignment arriving in from Lithuania, headed for a Dublin address.
They seized 150,000 ‘NZ Black Power’ branded cigarettes during this search at Dublin Airport, with an estimated retail value of approximately €103,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €82,000.
Finally, last Wednesday, June 22, Revenue officers seized 11 kgs of herbal cannabis in an air cargo consignment, originating in the US and destined for an address in Dublin.
The bust, with an estimated value of over €211,000 was sent under the disguise of being ‘sleeping bags’, ‘insulated socks’, and ‘waterproof parts.’
These seizures were part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and smuggling.
Officials continue to request businesses, or members of the public that have any information regarding smuggling, to contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.
