'Revenge time' - Mohamed Salah on Liverpool vs Real Madrid in the Champions League final

Mohamed Salah got his wish granted on Wednesday night as Real Madrid booked their place in the final of the Champions League where they will take on Liverpool. The Spanish giants overcame Manchester City 6-5 on aggregate in the Bernabeu.

When collecting his Football Writer's Award 2022 on Thursday night, the Liverpool star admitted his teammates are 'excited' for the final on Saturday, May 28 in Paris. The Reds feel like they have a score to settle after losing to Madrid in the final in 2018 - where Salah went off injured.

The Egyptian forward, who is the Premier League's leading goalscorer with 22 this season, believes the quadruple is possible for Liverpool, but admitted the title is in the hands of City.

When asked if Liverpool want revenge on Real Madrid for their 3-1 loss in Kyiv in 2018: “Yeah. It’s revenge time. They beat us in the final last time. It was a very sad day for all of us, so yeah. We have to focus on the Premier League first. We have four games left and so do City. We wish they will drop points. We just need to focus on the Spurs game and then go from there.

“I said I wanted to play them in the final. I’m sure it’s going to be a tough game. They beat a lot of good teams but I’m excited. The team is excited. We need to stay focused. We have to finish the league first, then we will see.”

Liverpool could become the first English team to win the quadruple - an achievement Salah believes is possible.

"Not everything is in our hands but we have to win our games. Manchester City have a great team with a great manager and I’m sure they want to keep winning to take the Premier League. We just need to focus on our games. Three trophies are in our hands. The other one - City have to drop points but I think it’s possible.”
