And when the results came in, the coveted Pub of the Year according to CAMRA for 2022 was none other than The Marine, South Shields - which has held a podium finish for the last three years of the competition.
The Marine also took home the glory in the 2020 results, finishing second in 2019, and third in 2018 respectively.
The friendly, family-run pub on Ocean Road has exceeded expectations this year due to the vast selection of draught beers and ciders, coupled with their cosy atmosphere.
They also run a mean food menu - packed with tasty pub grub and gourmet dishes alike.
The silver and bronze positions both went to a South Shields pubs, with the Steamboat missing out narrowly in second place, and the Cask Lounge finishing third.
Bottom of the pile in this year's competition was the Lighthouse Micro Pub on Sea Road, Sunderland - which finished in twelfth place. However, it's still a small win for the relatively new alehouse.
