Point and click adventurers better dust off that fedora, as Monkey Island is coming back in a big way.
On Monday, Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games announced Return to Monkey Island, a new sequel in the legendary adventure franchise. Series creators Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman are returning for this revival, along with composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian. Even actor Dominic Armato is coming back to reprise the role of Guybrush Threepwood! So it’s undoubtedly a fanboy’s dream reunion.
Check out Return to Monkey Island’s announcement trailer for yourself below. It’s safe to say that the humorous tone from the original games is still intact here.

We don’t know which platforms Return to Monkey Island will release on (probably PC and consoles), but those details can’t be far off since the game is coming out this year.
Gilbert and the team at Terrible Toybox have been working on Return to Monkey Island for over two years already, and it’ll be a direct sequel to Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.
