Retro online retailer True Vintage turns designer — and raises nearly £35,000 for the NHS

An online fashion start-up which usually sells retro clothes has been designing its own garments to raise money for the NHS.

True Vintage, based in Mitcham, stocks denim jackets, tracksuits and trainers from labels including Burberry and Nike. Before the coronavirus outbreak it had started selling some of its own clothes, on a small scale, but it ramped this up when lockdown began.

The company, led by 26-year-old Rory Westbrook, worked with illustrator Lucy Evans to produce a range of T-shirts and hoodies featuring an “NHS bear”.

NHS workers get 50 per cent off and all profits are donated to the health service.

More than 3,000 items have been sold, raising almost £35,000 for the NHS.

Mr Westbrook said: “This was a way for us to give something back. We have close friends of the business in the NHS and we wanted to support in any way we could.”

He added: “The demand has been exceptional.”
