Retaliatory strikes hit Houthi rebels in Yemen, US and UK involved

Retaliatory strike launched on Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen by the US and allies.

In a retaliatory move, the United States and its allies have launched a series of strikes against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. The Pentagon confirmed that more than a dozen Houthi targets were hit, including air defense systems, weapons facilities, and launch sites. The attacks were carried out by fighter jets, warships, and submarines from the United States and the United Kingdom.

This response comes after months of Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. The United States reported that around 27 attacks have occurred since mid-October. Just three days ago, US forces successfully intercepted and neutralized cruise missiles and drones launched by the Houthis. The increasing frequency and severity of these attacks prompted the coalition forces to take action.

The retaliatory strikes aimed to send a clear message to the Houthi rebels and their Iranian backers that provocations in major waterways will not be tolerated. The targets struck during this operation included radar systems, cruise missile and ballistic missile launch points, as well as storage facilities. This represents a significant escalation in response to the Houthi threat.

Operation Prosperity Guardian, a joint effort between the United States and Israel, was initiated to confront the Houthi rebels and their Iranian supporters. The operation recognizes that Iran's influence extends beyond Yemen and into Lebanon and Gaza, where they provide support to militant groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

While these strikes signify a strong warning to the Houthi rebels, the question remains whether they will heed this message or respond with further attacks. The region, particularly Tel Aviv, is now on high alert, anticipating potential retaliation from the Houthis following the strikes.

The United States and its allies emphasize that their actions are a necessary response to protect international waters and safeguard the interests of their coalition partners. With Houthi attacks posing a significant threat to commercial shipping and extending their aggression towards Israel, the coalition felt compelled to act.

This latest development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict in Yemen. As tensions continue to rise, the international community will closely monitor the Houthi response and assess the impact of these strikes on the broader regional dynamics.
