Manchester’s restaurants and bars will be hanging out the bunting for Charles III’s Coronation, with a host of very special offers, bespoke cocktails, scones, milkshakes and all sorts of other celebratory delights.
So if you’re heading out on the town rather than plonking yourself in front of the telly, you can do a lot worse than delving into some of these fine spots.
Champagne and lobster at Asha’s
There’s celebrating, then there’s celebrating with champagne and lobster. Asha’s is doing a special menu for the swearing in of King Charles III, and from May 1 to 7, you can order the The King Emperor's Platter featuring a lobster, served in its shell, with Kerala chilli, garlic prawns, chicken malai kebab, aloo tikki, lamb chops, vegetable samosa and makhani sauce. It’s wildly pricey at £150 for two, but does come with a bottle of Moet & Chandon, and it’s a special occasion.

Pong & Puck
Pong & Puck at the Great Northern Warehouse will be debuting its special King Charles frozen cocktail on May 6 and 7. It’s a remarkably reasonable £5, and it’s made from a mix of a raspberry daiquiri, pina colada and margarita and blue curacao, so it’s layered red, white and blue. How very patriotic.

Albert’s Schloss
With more than a bit of German lineage in the royal family, it’s apt that Schloss is getting involved in the celebrations. The new Kroissant Royale looks like a real winner - a freshly baked croissant stuffed with coronation chicken, pickled onions, fresh chilli and coriander served with curry mayo, served with a choice of fries or their ‘haus’ salad. Ja, bitte.

Cosy Club
Over at the Corn Exchange, the Cosy Club will be serving up its cocktails in special china cups, specially blended for the festivities. The Victoria Sponge features Hendrick's gin, Pimm's strawberry, vanilla and lemon served with a mini Victoria sponge on the side, while the Coronation Cup is made from Hendrick's gin, elderflower, lemon, coconut and orange served with a mini cucumber sandwich. If you’re called Charles, Camilla or have the surname King, you’ll get your drinks for free.

Shake Lab
The Shake Lab will be unveiling a range of Coronation shakes from May 4 at the Trafford Centre. There are too many, and with too many ingredients to list here, but the highlights include the ‘First In Line’, which features a vanilla milkshake, Party Rings, bubble gum sauce, hand churned cream, rainbow sprinkles and finished with mini–Party Rings.

Malibu Beach Club
The folk behind Pong & Puck will also be launching its new pop-up venue the Malibu Beach Club to usher in the Bank Holiday this weekend. There will be DJs, frozen cocktails and palm trees, and while not strictly pomp and ceremony, it’ll be great fun nonetheless.

200 Degrees Coffee
OK, so if your name is Charles, Camilla or you have a corgi, you’re in for some free stuff at 200 Degrees to celebrate the Coronation. Flash them some ID, and you can get a free hot drink of your choice from May 6 to May 8. Corgis will get a free puppocino (ID is not required for dogs).

Alex’s Bakery
The favourite Deansgate bakery will be making up special Coronation cupcake boxes to order in-store or online, all covered in red, white and blue icing. They’re also doing an afternoon tea in-store for £14.50, including a range of dainty sandwiches, scones and cakes.

Ducie Street Warehouse
The Ducie Street disco brunches are already the stuff of legend, but over the Coronation weekend, they’re throwing in some afternoon tea shapes too. A trio of scones have been devised for the occasion, comprising of Earl Grey cream and raspberry jam, Manchester tart-inspired cherry, coconut and whipped custard, and Strawberry and ginger scone.
