Restaurant to be ripped apart as ambitious future unveiled for Ayrshire venue

One of Kilmarnock's biggest restaurants is to be ripped apart as blueprints detailing its future have been released.

Bar Luca closed its doors for the final time earlier this month leaving a huge, empty venue on Bank Street behind.

However, William Duncan and co appear to be behind ambitious plans to take charge of the entire building.

The chartered accountancy and business advisory firm already occupy the top two floors of the listed building.

But now the company want to make use of the basement and upper floor.

A reception area would be constructed right in front of the main entrance with a boardroom, a meeting room, three offices, open plan seating and 'acoustic booths' all filling the space where the bar was and the majority of the tables the venue had.

Applicant Jacca Leisure Limited has lodged a bid to East Ayrshire Council to change the class of the building from licensed bar and restaurant to commercial office along with the formation of a new window.

William Duncan and co, headquartered in Ayr and with a branch in Glasgow too, recently confirmed on their website that the firm was acquired by Dains Accountants on September 30 this year.

The statement reads: "We look forward to offering the same high standards of service to our clients and by joining Dains, our ability to deliver an even broader range of services and resources is immediately enhanced.

"Combining our expertise and experience with the team at Dains will enable us to spearhead the growth of the group in Scotland under the William Duncan + Co brand and continue to lead the way in digital accounting technology."

East Ayrshire Council planners will rule on plans to change the use of the building at a future date.
