Restaurant Responds After Viral TikToker Keith Lee Ate Sushi That Appeared To Contain… A Worm

TikTok is in an absolute frenzy after beloved creator Keith Lee ate a piece of sushi that appeared to contain a worm while reviewing a sushi restaurant for his channel.

Last week, Lee visited a unique sushi restaurant called FOB Sushi Bar in Seattle, Washington to review it for his 16.7 million TikTok followers. The restaurant is a buffet where customers choose a bunch of sushi and pay for it by weight. Lee picked up 10 pieces of sushi before heading back to his car to do a review.

While he enjoyed the food and rated most pieces between a six and eight out of ten, eagle-eyed viewers noticed something squirming while he held up a piece of salmon nigiri to the camera.

You can watch it below — and keep an eye out for the right side of the salmon at the 1:50 minute mark. You’re welcome.

As you can expect, the comments went absolutely bonkers with people who spotted the worm and others who are straight up concerned about Lee’s wellbeing after eating it.

“Are you alright?” commented one user.

“I love raw sushi but you gotta always check it for parasites before I eat it,” said another.

“Not me gasping when the worm moved,” wrote a TikToker.

Since posting the video on November 11, Lee hasn’t commented on the situation that many are dubbing “wormgate”. However, after intense calls for a response from FOB Sushi Bar, the business released a statement.

“Recently, a video has been circulating online that claims worms were found in our sushi. We want to address this claim and assure you that it is entirely false,” the restaurant wrote on Instagram.

“At FOB Sushi, we are committed to upholding the highest health and safety standards to provide clean, fresh, and safe food for every customer.”

The post outlined the company’s practices with seafood and denied that the movement in the video was caused by worms of parasites.

“Regarding the video, the movement observed in the fish may result from natural elasticity or the pressure of chopsticks when applied to its instruction,” the statement continued.

“We want to assure our customers that this is not indicative of worms of any health concerns.”

In the caption of the carousel statement, FOB Sushi Bar claimed “rumours like this can harm small business” which is why they were “addressing it head-on.”

Although it’s unclear what the moving thing actually is, Lee seems to be fine since eating the wriggly sushi and has continued his taste-testing journey throughout Seattle. However, in all of the videos created since wormgate, his comment sections are filled with people asking him to comment on the wormy situation.

Will Lee comment on the squirmy situation? Only time will tell.
