Restaurant owner who banned James Corden calls him a 'real man' after star's TV apology

James Corden has been branded a "real man" by the owner of New York's Balthazar restaurant after the star apologised on TV for his "ungracious" behaviour.

The comedian, 44, was briefly banned from the popular eatery by Keith McNally for 'yelling like crazy' at staff after taking issue with an omelette which was served to his wife Julia. .

Balthazar owner Keith previously said the Gavin and Stacey writer, 44, was a "gifted comedian" but a "cretin of a man" in a now-viral online rant, with James owning up to his mistake on Monday night.

The foodie hotspot owner says he's had the 'last word' on the matter and has accepted James' second apology for the ordeal.

Taking to his Instagram, Keith said: "LAST WORD... Last Night on his TV show, James Corden very graciously apologized for his outburst at Balthazar. It takes a real man to do this.

"In the past, I’ve behaved much worse than Corden, but wasn’t man enough to apologize.

"For this reason, I’m going to lift the ban on Corden and impose one on myself instead. I’m going to ban myself from Balthazar for 2 weeks. People who live in Glass Houses…"

James' ban was quickly lifted by Keith who previously said he had 'apologised profusely', but just says later, in an interview, James insisted he did 'nothing wrong'.

Due to the furore, the comedian set the record straight on The Late Late Show, addressing the incident which is said to have left Keith's staff "shaken" after being 'shouted at'.

James admitted he was "ungracious" and said it was never his "intention" to upset staff.

He said: "Because I didn't shout or scream, I didn't get up out of my seat, I didn't call anyone names or use derogatory language, I've been walking around thinking that I haven't done anything wrong.

"But the truth is I have made a rude, rude comment. And it was wrong. It was an unnecessary comment, it was ungracious to the server."

James said he had "immediately" contacted the restaurant owner after seeing his social media post.

"[I told him] how upset I was that anybody was hurt by anything that I had done and anything that I had said and we had a good talk.

"He appreciated the call. I was happy that we got to clear the air. And I felt like we dealt with it privately but by this point, the story was out there and more people were upset," he said.

"I get it. I totally understand. I understand everybody getting upset and I accept everybody's opinion.

"I also hate, as I said to the owner that day, that I've ever upset anybody ever. It was never my intention. It just wasn't.

"I love that restaurant. I love the staff there.

"I hope I'm allowed in again one day so when I'm back in New York I can go there and apologise in person, which is something I will absolutely do."
