Restaurant loved by celebs to reopen after £3.5m makeover

Liverpool restaurant and celebrity hangout San Carlo is set to reopen this week after completing a £3.5million transformation.

The popular Castle Street restaurant had been boarded up and hidden from public view since January 2 while work was underway but now, the makeover is complete and it's set to reopen its doors on Friday, May 5.

Scores of famous faces have been spotted at the venue down the years, including footballers and celebs including Zara Phillips and Abbey Clancy. Fans of the restaurant are in for a treat, as the venue has been completely reconfigured and extended, with a stunning new interior design.

Bosses say the transformation, led by interior architecture and design studio Fettle, "has fused contemporary touches with the traditional to create a beautiful, welcoming and wholly sophisticated dining experience."

The venue wouldn't be out of place on the luxurious Amalfi Coast, with its rich palette of marble, high gloss, timber and brass detailing throughout. San Carlo has been softened by layered mohair, leather and patterned fabric upholstery; while marble and timber tables, fluted oak bar stools with brass bases and green leather seats, elegant curved legged dining chairs and burnt orange leather and velvet banquette seating complete the look.

The 211 cover restaurant boasts a new bar area, while the former bank vault is now The Rosa Room, a private dining room on the lower ground floor.

The grand re-opening will see the return of San Carlo's traditional Italian menu. ECHO photographers were permitted a sneak peek at the new look ahead of its relaunch.

Commenting on the project, managing director Marcello Distefano said: "Our team have been working hard over the past few months on the stunning transformation of our much-loved Liverpool restaurant which we are incredibly proud of and excited to reveal.

"The new look for Liverpool really represents the evolution of San Carlo. Having been in the city for 13 years, they city holds a special place in our hearts and we cannot wait to reopen the doors and welcome in our regular and new diners to experience this new era of San Carlo Liverpool."

San Carlo is based at 41 Castle Street, Liverpool, L2 9SH. To make a booking, click here.
