Restaurant launches £200 caviar mince pie - but there's a sweet purpose behind cost

Calling all bizarre food fans: you can now get your hands on a limited edition mince pie that's the first of its kind ever to be released in the UK - as its filling is made entirely from caviar.

The premium snack is being released by The Glory Stores, a restaurant in Cardiff that also sells a few select items to be enjoyed at home, such as wines, a seafood platter, and now, a caviar-filled mince pie.

The Glory Caviar Mince Pie is filled with Imperial Beluga – Huso Huso Sturgeon – the king of caviar. It will be made specially to order for anyone who wants to shell out £200 a pop for the luxury treat.

Profits from the pies will be donated to the Trussell Trust (The Glory Stores)

And while the price seems eyewatering, if you've got the money to spare on the unique Christmas snack - which is available to buy from the Glory Stores website - then you'll be doing a good deed, as all profits from the expensive dish will be donated to the Trussell Trust, who supports a nationwide network of food banks.

The money raised by the caviar-filled mince pies will help the charity provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and help them campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

One mince pie from the Glory Stores website is priced at £200, but you can also buy a box of five for £1,000, or pick up a box of 12 for a whopping £2,000.

The mince pies use Imperial Beluga caviar (The Glory Stores)

Shaun Houcke, proprietor, The Glory Stores said: "We are so excited to launch our limited-edition caviar mince pies. They are made for those with a big love for festive flavours and enjoy an alternative to traditional tastes.

"At The Glory Stores, we believe it is important to give back, particularly at this time of year, which is why we are donating all profits of our caviar pies to the Trussell Trust, who not only do incredible work throughout the festive season but all year round."

And caviar-filled mince pies aren't the only way people are being encouraged to do what they can to help out their local food banks during the ongoing cost of living crisis, as we previously reported that one man urged people to donate after he went viral when his mates roasted the dinners his mum served him.

Clem Johnson often joked to his pals that some of the meals - which included pie and crackers, and sausages with plain spaghetti and sweetcorn - were "unidentifiable", and his mates joined in on the banter, with their hilarious ratings of his meals eventually going viral.

And while Clem was in on the joke, he also took to Twitter to encourage those who laugh at his scran to do what they can to donate to food banks.

He tweeted: "Now you've all had your laugh, can I be serious? Ye my scran's s**t, but I’ve got something on my plate. Loads of people don't. Put your money where your mouth is and support your local foodbank."
