Rest and Be Thankful shut for second time in week amid 'safety concerns'

UPDATE: Bear Scotland has confirmed the road has now reopened. It said: "Following last night's safety concerns, the #A83 Rest and Be Thankful has been REOPENED via the Old Military Road."

THE Rest and Be Thankful has had to close for the second time in a week due to “safety concerns”.

The road on the A83 had faced issues with landslips leading to closures, with a 500-tonne landslide sparking closures last weekend.

Traffic Scotland warned motorists the road was closed on Wednesday night due to “safety concerns” with an inspection to take place on Thursday morning.

A post on Traffic Scotland’s Twitter/X showed the diversions which were in place.

For those heading westbound, it said: “Turn right onto the A82 at Tarbet and follow the road until Crianlarich – continue until Tyndrum – turn left onto the A85 and continue until Dalmally.

“Turn left onto A819 and follow the road until Inveraray. Thereafter follow permanent signing.”

Bear Scotland said on Twitter/X: “Due to safety concerns the A83 Rest and Be Thankful has been closed.

“Traffic is now being diverted via the A83, A82, A85, A819 and A83. Inspections will resume in daylight hours, apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
