Residents evacuated after fire breaks out in Glasgow flats

RESIDENTS have been evacuated after a fire broke out in Glasgow. 

Emergency teams descended on Shettleston Road in the city's East End at around 12.20am on Wednesday to tackle the blaze at a block of flats.

Police, ambulance staff and four fire engines raced to the scene while paramedics rushed two people to hospital to be treated following the incident.

Fire crews have since left the area after extinguishing the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but officers have confirmed that they are investigating. 

A spokesperson said: "Around 12.20am on Wednesday, November 29, police were called to a report of a fire at a block of flats in Shettleston Road, Glasgow

"Officers attended to assist and a number of residents were evacuated.

"Two people were taken to hospital.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 00:13 to attend an incident on Shettleston Road, Glasgow.

"An ambulance and two special operations response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene and three patients were transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 00.10am on Wednesday, November 29 to reports of a dwelling fire in Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the city's Shettleston Road, where firefighters extinguished a fire within a common close area.

"Two casualties were transferred by Scottish Ambulance Service personnel to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for further treatment.

"One additional casualty received a precautionary checkup at the scene.

"Crews left the scene after ensuring the area had been made safe."
