Residents allowed to return home after being evacuated from Glasgow's east end

GLASGOW residents who were evacuated following the discovery of "potentially hazardous" materials have been allowed to return home.

Around 80 people had to leave their homes after cops were called to a flat on Altyre Street in Shettleston on Monday evening.

A number of police cordons were in place and Altyre Street, Dalness Street, Ard Street and Trainard Avenue were closed, but have now re-opened.

Police will remain on the scene but officers are reassuring the community that there is no wider risk.

Chief Superintendent Alan Waddell said: “Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and there will be a continued police presence in the area. We are working closely with our partners.

“I would like to thank residents and motorists for their patience whilst we dealt with this incident. There was no danger to the wider public.”
