Residential street sealed off after shots fired at house

A city street remained cordoned off by police today after shots were fired at a semi-detached house.

Merseyside Police were called to the house in Owen Road, Kirkdale, at around 7pm on Friday, December 30. Officers found damage to the front and back of the property but nobody was injured in the gun attack.

Police remained at the scene on Saturday as crime scene investigators carried out forensic examinations and house-to-house enquiries. High visibility patrols were also stepped up in the area to reassure residents.

The road remained closed in both directions on Saturday. A significant cordon stretched along the road while a house within it had a secondary cordon around its front entrance where officers were focusing their enquiries.

One resident told the ECHO she saw a lot of police vehicles arrive on the road yesterday evening. Another said she was shocked to see the police scene as she returned home from her mum's and was worried about what had happened.

Chief Inspector Jim Wilde, said: "An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing. I would appeal to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area around Owen Road shortly before, or after, the incident to contact us. Information they have could be vital."

Anyone with information is asked to DM @merpolcc, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 0800 of 30 December.
