Resident 'spat on' and 'intimidated' by neighbours for two years

Tenant of a North Dublin apartment block claim they have been plagued with severe anti-social behaviour, including being spat on, from their neighbours for two years.

A fed up resident of a north Dublin apartment block told Dublin Live of the "extreme anxiety" she and her roommate suffer as a result of the unruly neighbours who are also Cluid tenants of the Approved Housing Body. The communal areas in the complex are "abusively" littered, covered in spit and vomited in, she said.

The resident told Dublin Live: "I am extremely anxious here. My [offspring] has been tripped up and spat at and she is also anxious and very unhappy about this situation.

"She is not happy bringing her friends into this environment. It has been ongoing for two years now."

She added: "I feel and the residents feel the landlord is not doing enough to stop this and protect people's mental health. I believe people have the right to a safe, clean environment to live in and not to feel intimidated or embarrassed to bring friends and family over.

"On a daily basis there is abusive and blatant littering. Takeaways are strewn all over the floor and mashed into the carpets, people are vomiting in the corridors and one of the most serious issues is the spitting. The lift is covered in human spit. I have been spat at three times."

The resident added that she is calling on Cluid to resolve the issue. She said: "I am looking for a resolution for everyone in this block.

"The things that are most important here is that everyone should have a safe and clean environment here to come home to and also somewhere where they feel they can bring back their family and friends."

She added: "One resident came in crying after her shift the other night because she said she just couldn't take it. She goes to work, works very hard, and there is a huge amount of littering and spillages. It is so hard on your mental health."

A spokesman for Cluid said they could not comment on individual cases for GDPR reasons but did point to their Anti-Social Behaviour policy. He said: "When a resident notifies us of a potential ASB issue, we direct them to our ASB policy and procedure, highlighting the rights and obligations of complainants and landlords therein.

"Cluid acts in a fair and impartial manner to all parties and will only be able to act if there is evidence. Therefore, Cluid cannot take action against a tenant or end a tenancy without evidence."

Cluid has provided over 10,000 homes to over 26,000 residents across the country.
