A Nottingham care home resident has said they feel like a prisoner and said the place should be closed down, according to a report. The resident, who lives at Belle Vue Court in Mapperley, told Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors: "I'm going out of my mind living here. I feel like a prisoner in my room and I sometimes don't see staff for three-four hours."
The home, situated in Woodborough Road was rated as inadequate in every area by the health watchdog and has been put in special measures. Belle Vue Court said it accepted the findings and issued an apology.
The inspection report, published on Wednesday, January 18, said the home's 16 residents were not protected from the risk of harm or abuse, adding that residents did not receive their medicines in a safe or timely manner. The CQC said residents were not engaged or offered the opportunity to participate in activities.

Morale was said to be very low among staff members due to low staffing levels. A resident relative told inspectors: "Morale is very low with the staff; they do their very best. They take turns to be cleaners, cooks, carers, receptionist." Another said there were a lot of agency workers who did not know the residents, citing a time when one brought a full glass of neat cordial after a request for juice by a resident.
Inspectors pointed out that people were not always treated with dignity and respect, with staff shouting across corridors to each other discussing personal care needs. A relative said they had concerns that their loved one's clothing was not being washed.
A Belle Vue Court spokesperson said: “Our priority is to care for our residents with dignity, respect, and compassion. We accept the CQC’s report highlights that we fell short of the high standards of care our residents and their loved ones rightfully expect and deserve, and we apologise for this
“We take any feedback and guidance from our regulator very seriously, and are working with all relevant authorities to address the CQC’s findings.”
