Resident Evil 4 trailer reveals fresh gameplay and changes to Ganados

The new trailer offers a first look at the story of the upcoming remake

Resident Evil 4 is lauded as the most popular RE game, so its remake has been hotly anticipated.

On Thursday, Capcom gave its fans an extended look at next year’s Resident Evil 4 remake during its Resident Evil Showcase.

It seems that Capcom will be sticking to all the weirdness that made Resident Evil 4 so great, with characters Ada Wong, Ashley Graham, The Merchant, Father Bitores Mendez and Ramon Salazar all back from the remake.

The game won’t be wholly the same, of course. The early trailer highlights changes to Resident Evil 4’s enemies, Ganados.

The trailer opens with atmospheric shots underscoring the visual upgrades the game is benefiting from. The peace of the scene is broken as Ganados pour out of a barn in an attempt to overwhelm the playable character, Leon S Kennedy.

It seems they’ve got new ways to overcome Leon, but players can still be ready with a roundhouse kick and a new knife attack.

There's also a new trade mechanic for The Merchant, offering players the ability to exchange gems and special items.

Capcom outlined its plans for the remake in more detail and underlined its goal to “[pay] respect to the original game’s world while implementing new ideas and state of the art graphics to strengthen the core concepts of the title”.

It also aims to “provide a fresh experience with a sense of familiarity if you played the original, that both newcomers and veterans to Resident Evil 4 will enjoy”.

Resident Evil 4 is heading to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X on March 24.
