Resident 'couldn't believe it' after car crashed wall of family home in Arnold

A car crashed through a lamppost and careered into the wall outside a home in Arnold, leaving its occupiers in shock. The vehicle collided with the wall at the front of a house in Furlong Street at around 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 27.

Sean Burton, who lives with his parents and brother at the property, said the driver had lost control whilst performing a turn in the road at its junction with Bestwood Avenue. "A guy was turning round in the road and, as he was trying to reverse, he revved his car too hard and lost control," said the 30-year-old, who had the incident recorded on CCTV.

"The car was completely written off. It's lucky he didn't hit my brother's car. The guy went straight through the wall and through the lamppost." Mr Burton - who was at his job as a production line worker at BCM, a health company which is based in Beeston and part of Fareva at the time - said he was shocked to hear the news from his dad.

"I was in shock, I'm just glad nobody got hurt as that was my main concern," he said. "I couldn't believe it." When Nottinghamshire Live visited the house the day after the collision, the majority of the wall was missing, with piles of bricks stacked up to one side.

Despite the damage, Mr Burton said had "the best night's sleep", adding council workers had removed the lamppost outside due to the damage. Nottinghamshire Live has contacted Nottinghamshire Police for more information.

The incident was also reported on a local community group Facebook page. "Avoid Furlong Street if you can, road blocked due to collision on to a property," one person wrote on Tuesday evening.
