Rescue efforts continue in Nigeria after dam burst puts 400,000 people at risk

Evacuations are being ramped up in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, which is experiencing the worst flooding seen in Borno state in decades. This comes after the Alau Dam gave way on Tuesday, following prolonged strain from intense rain. Hundreds of thousands of people are in danger.

Also in the programme, Zambia's hydroelectric power stations are running dry as drought sweeps southern Africa. Residents have to make do with just a few hours of electricity a day. But more and more people are gaining energy independence by turning to solar power.

And we report on lifelong learning in Ivory Coast. The country has made huge progress in promoting literacy and now it's redoubling efforts to reach adults who missed out on education. A UNESCO-sponsored programme is putting teachers into communities, while technology is giving learners the power to study whenever and wherever they want.
