Kindly Lila Brissett took in a rescue kitten way back in 1991 and now, 32 years later, her pet looks set to be named the oldest cat in the world.
Tortoise-shell Rosie still has all her teeth and has been to the vet just twice in her long life.
Once in the 1990s to be spayed and five years ago to be treated for a cyst.
Guinness World Records is urging Lila, 72, to have Rosie recognised as the world’s oldest cat, as the title is currently held by 27-year-old Flossie, from Kent, while Rosie celebrates her 32nd birthday on June 1.
Lila, of Norwich, said: “This beautiful thing was handed to me in a cane basket as a kitten in 1991 and the rest is history.
“Rosie sleeps by the window all day and, like clockwork, will have some food and use the litter tray.
“I often have to check if she’s still alive and breathing. I worry about the day she crosses over the rainbow bridge. She’ll leave a big void.”
The oldest cat ever was Creme Puff, of Austin, Texas, who was born on August 3, 1967, and lived until August 6, 2005, 38 years and 3 days.
Guinness World Records said: “We would encourage Lila to make an application for Rosie via the website for our Records Management Team to review.”
