Republican lawmakers are gloating about President-elect Donald Trump's electoral certification, celebrating the formal step toward the White House after Vice President Kamala Harris had to preside over announcing her own defeat.
"We just finished the certification of President Trump's historic victory. This is also a victory for MAGA as we declare we are coming back and are taking over this country, and we are going to destroy everything the Democrats have done for the past four year," said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in a video right after the certification.

Other lawmakers who joined the celebrations were Rep. Steve Scalise and Senate Majority Leader John Thune. The former said he was "honored to certify President Donald Trump's historic landslide victory today" and that he is "fired up to work with him once again to Make America Great Again."

The latter congratulated both Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance, who was present during the certification process considering he is a senator for Ohio. "I look forward to working together to secure a brighter future for the American people," Thune said.
Vance was featured prominently during the Republican celebrations as he was present in the chamber. Rep. Richard Hudson of North Carolina posted a picture alongside Vance after the certification, both of them smiling. Rep. Virginia Foxx, also from North Carolina, added that it is a "great day to certify Donald Trump's landslide victory." "Still not tired of winning," she said.

Eric Trump, on his end, mocked Harris for having to certify her defeat, saying it is "the best birthday present one could ever wish for."

The certification process was conducted without inconveniences, a stark contrast with the same date four years ago, when Trump supporters invaded the Capitol in hopes of interrupting the certification of President Joe Biden's victory.
Since then, Republicans— led by Trump himself— have rebranded the January 6 rioters as "tourists," despite deaths, hundreds of injuries and even hundreds of convictions handed down by courts. Trump has also promised to pardon most of those found guilty of the insurrection, rioters that were inspired to go down to Capitol Hill after he encouraged them to "fight like hell" at a D.C. rally hours later. He has also tried to rebrand that infamous day as a "beautiful day" and a "day of love."
