Republican White House Lawyers Endorse Kamala Harris Over Trump

Former President Donald Trump speaks at a campaign rally in Hialeah, Fla., Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023.

A group of twelve Republican White House lawyers who served in the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush have publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in her race against former President Donald Trump.

In a letter released the day after Harris's nomination acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, the lawyers expressed their belief that a return of Trump to office would pose a threat to American democracy and the rule of law.

The signatories urged patriotic Republicans, former Republicans, conservatives, center-right citizens, and independent voters to prioritize the country's well-being over party loyalty and ideology by supporting Harris.

The letter highlighted the refusal of Trump's own Vice President, senior administration members, and former Republican nominees to endorse his reelection, citing concerns about his fitness for office and his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.

The lawyers emphasized that they view the upcoming election as a binary choice and firmly believe that Trump is unfit for office, citing his actions as detrimental to the Constitution, democracy, and rule of law.

Trump's legal challenges and indictments have fueled support among Republicans, despite facing opposition from figures like former ambassador Nikki Haley during the 2024 GOP presidential nomination race.

President Biden's campaign, now led by Harris following Biden's decision not to seek reelection, has actively courted disaffected Republican voters, showcasing support from prominent Republicans like former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan and former Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois.

Trump's influence on the Republican Party has been significant since his initial nomination in 2016, shifting the party towards a populist MAGA (Make America Great Again) ideology.
