Following the shooting incident at former President Donald Trump's rally, two Republican senators from the Senate Homeland Security Committee have called for an investigation and a hearing to address the matter.

Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri took to social media to express the committee's need to investigate what he referred to as an 'assassination attempt and attempted mass murder.' He emphasized the importance of understanding how such an incident could have occurred.

Senator Rick Scott, another GOP member, demanded that the Senate panel conduct a hearing on the shooting before August 1. He criticized the fact that the alleged assassin had a clear line of sight to both the former president and a prominent presidential candidate, deeming it 'absolutely inexcusable.'

In a statement, Senator Scott highlighted the oversight responsibility of the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (HSGAC). He stressed the obligation to seek answers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Secret Service regarding the circumstances of the assassination attempt. He also called for measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

Both Senators Hawley and Scott are members of the Senate panel, which is chaired by Democratic Senator Gary Peters.
