Republican lawmakers are supporting the arrest of Milwaukee judge Hannah Dugan, who the FBI accused of helping a migrant avoid arrest by ICE officials.
"Lock 'em up!!" said Rep. Troy Nehls, from Texas, to Axios, which compiled quick reactions to the development. While he was the most vocal, others framed the matter as a consequence of judicial overreach.
"It is abundantly clear that many activist judges around the country have been acting politically in order to sabotage President Trump's agenda, and disenfranchise the 77 million Americans that voted for him," Rep. Derrick Van Orden told the outlet. "Judges are not supposed to write the law, and they certainly are not above it," he added.
Dugan was taken into federal custody Friday morning at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. She faces two felony charges — obstruction and concealing an individual. They stem from an incident in which she allegedly helped undocumented immigrant Eduardo Flores-Ruiz avoid arrest by federal immigration officers.
Rep. Tim Burchett, on his end, said that if the judge "broke the law, she needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent." "No double standards."
A similar message was uttered by Attorney General Pam Bondi, who went on Fox News to defend the administration's actions: "What has happened to our judiciary is beyond me."

"They are deranged, it's all I can think of. I think some of these judges think they are above the law. We are sending a very strong message today: if you are harboring a fugitive, we don't care who you are. If you are helping hide one, if you are giving a TdA (Tren de Aragua) member guns, anyone who is illegally in this country, we will come after you and we will prosecute you. We will find you."
Democrats, in contrast, are slamming the arrest. "This is stuff I expect from Third World countries," Rep. Mark Pocan told the record, adding that "the Trump administration again is breaking norms in how it's dealing with immigration, the legal system, and normalcy.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, called the move "a whole new descent into government chaos," while Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vt.) said there "absolutely" needs to be an investigation, citing concerns of judicial intimidation: "On the face of it, this is dangerous and outrageous and it is designed to intimidate our judiciary"
