A Republican lawmaker is facing scrutiny after an investigation revealed that his campaign reported payments to companies that don't exist, with his team attributing the discrepancies to software errors.
Since his election in 2022, Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles has been embroiled in controversy, including accusations of fabricating his resume, misrepresenting personal finances and misusing charitable donations, NewsChannel 5 reported.
Ogles' campaign finances have come under further scrutiny following an FBI investigation into a false claim that he loaned his campaign $320,000. Now, a new report raises further questions about his financial transparency, showing that his campaign reported tens of thousands of dollars in expenses to questionable entities.
A NewsChannel 5 investigation uncovered multiple payments to businesses that do not appear to exist or provide the services listed in Ogles' campaign filings.
Payments include $14,000 to "JL Tech Sales," a company with no clear presence at its listed addresses, and over $1,100 to "In a Par," a nonexistent business in Tennessee.
Ogles' team has dismissed concerns, with his chief of staff Grant Henry telling the outlet that they "used a third-party software program that caused minor errors." However, an individual linked to one of the alleged vendors admitted to invoicing Ogles for services never rendered, with no repayment made.
Additional payments were flagged, including $11,150 to a call center for "food and beverage" and $55,000 to unnamed individuals sharing an office building address in Washington, D.C.
Ogles' campaign has yet to provide documentation verifying these expenses, and legal experts suggest the discrepancies warrant further investigation.
