Republic of Ireland jersey launched as fans label it 'horrible' and draw Rangers comparisons

Many Republic of Ireland fans have branded the team's new kit as 'horrible' and compared it to one of Glasgow Rangers' jerseys.

The new kit has been launched ahead of this week's double-header against Latvia and France at Aviva Stadium.

The FAI recently ended its partnership with Umbro before striking a deal with Castore as their new kit manufacturer.

And the new strip has been met with mixed reviews.

One social media user said: "Horrible looking and will fall apart after the second wash nice one."

Another fan said "Horrible Jersey" while another Twitter user said: "The worse pile of vomit ever served up as an Ireland kit."

It wasn't all doom and gloom with one social media user saying: "Have to say I really like this, a big improvement on what’s gone before it."

Some fans think the kit strikes some similarities with the current Rangers fourth strip.

The Ireland and Rangers kits side by side

One said "Rangers in green" while another added, "Rip off Rangers".

Another added: "A copy of a Rangers jersey in green".

Meanwhile, the FAI said on Twitter: "The FAI is proud to launch our new Ireland National Team home kit. Developed with Castore, our new kit celebrates our colours and honours the history of our jersey, whilst ensuring it has a modern look for today's game."

The jersey is available for pre-order with adult jerseys costing £72 and junior tops coming in at £59.
