A number of Irish football fans believe Roy Keane could be the top candidate to replace Stephen Kenny as Ireland manager.
Kenny faced fresh calls for his departure after Ireland's 2-1 loss in Greece last night, with Damien Delaney branding him 'out of his depth' and believes it might be time for Ireland 'to start looking at other options.'
Last night's defeat leaves Ireland on zero points from their opening two games with Euro 2024 qualification hopes hanging by a thread.
Euro 2024 qualification has long been Kenny's target and with those dreams up in smoke, the Ireland boss is under serious pressure.
Should Kenny leave the role, plenty of fans think Roy Keane could be handed the job, although not everyone seems happy about it.
"Roy Keane and Robbie Keane for the next Ireland head coach. If it happens, it will go nowhere also," wrote on Twitter user.
"Who do Ireland look at as a possible Manager, surely someone fancies the job, we pay Kenny almost 600k a year, I know in modern terms that’s not much but still. Give it to Roy Keane," wrote Seamus on Twitter.
One Twitter user wants Keane to take over the job with Gary Neville as his assistant.
Another user disagrees with the idea of giving it to Keane and wrote, "To do what? The manager isn't the issue, the squad is. We've championship and league one players."
Twitter user Jack defended Kenny amidst the Roy Keane speculation and said, "Lads how can you blame Kenny for today’s performance. I get the results just aren’t there but if we’re being honest it was just a lack of effort from the lads today. First goal was unprecedented and the second goal was players being too lazy to track back."
"I'd fear for some of those player's safety in the dressing room if Roy Keane was manager..." wrote Michael.
"Neil Lennon with Keane definitely would be solid," wrote another Irish fan.
"Get big keano in," remarked another fan.
Keane of course has spent time on Ireland's coaching staff and acted as assistant manager to Martin O'Neill between 2013 and 2018.
His last managerial role was at Ipswich Town over a decade ago.
