Reports of man with gun trigger huge police operation

Dozens of police cars descended on a north Liverpool street this evening (Sunday) after reports of a man with a gun,

Large numbers of Merseyside Police vehicles were seen in Hanson Road near the border of Fazakerley and Aintree tonight. A police aircraft could also be seen and heard in the area.

Most of Hanson Road has been cordoned off by police with searches taking place in the area. The force has confirmed those searches come after reports of a man seen with a handgun.

A Merseyside Police statement said: "We can confirm officers are this evening, Sunday 1st January, at business premises in Liverpool.

We were contacted at 6.25pm following reports a male had been spotted in possession of a handgun at Hanson Road business centre on Hanson Road. There are no suggestions any shots have been fired and there are no reports of anyone being injured or damage caused.

"Enquiries remain ongoing and a search of the premises is being carried out."

People in the area told our reporter they were asked to move away from the Hanson Road area around 8.45pm, with most of the road being blocked off to the public. The main police activity is taking place around the business centre where the man was reportedly spotted.
