Reports: Mavs Interested in Terrence Ross As He Finalizes Buyout

Terrence Ross and the Magic are working toward a contract buyout, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports Saturday, and already at least one contender is expressing interest in the veteran guard.

According to Marc Stein, the Mavericks are among a few teams interested in Ross if he’s able to secure a buyout from Orlando. Wojnarowski added that a number of clubs pursued the 32-year-old ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline and that he’s now expected to garner significant interest if he hits the open market with the Mavs emerging as the frontrunner.

Ross will need to agree to a buyout by March 1 to be eligible for a team’s playoff roster.

Dallas has already shown a commitment to shaking the roster up around All-Star Luka Dončić, which was headlined by a blockbuster trade for star point guard Kyrie Irving earlier this week. Currently positioned at 4th in a crowded Western Conference, the Mavericks (31–26) are seeking a return trip to the conference finals, where they came up short against the Warriors last year.

Ross, who has spent the better part of the last seven seasons in Orlando after beginning his career with the Raptors, has averaged eight points per game off the bench for the Magic during the 2022–23 campaign. Perhaps most importantly, he’s shot 38.1 percent on 3.8 three-point attempts per game, which could make him a useful threat from beyond the arc on a postseason contender.
