The Chicago Bulls have a ton of decisions to make at the trade deadline this year, as they could take the team in a bunch of different directions. They’ve been playing well, but since it’s unlikely they will compete with the top teams in the East, a rebuild makes sense. But that’s not what the front office wants.
Chicago seems intent on remaining competitive, though they would still reportedly like to deal Zach LaVine. His huge contract could restrict them from making significant moves in the future, and it just seems as though they are ready to move on from him.
Unfortunately for the Bulls, it’s looking more and more like they won’t be able to trade him. According to Matt Moore of Action Network, it’s increasingly likely that LaVine will remain in Chicago past the deadline this season.
“Still no takers for Zach LaVine, and there’s increasing expectation of him remaining in Chicago,” Moore wrote. “Fair or not, LaVine is seen as a distressed asset on account of his play style, injury history and most importantly contract that takes him through 2026.”
LaVine has dealt with two long-term injuries this season. He missed over a month with a foot issue and is now in the process of a 1-2-week absence as he deals with an ankle sprain.
Any team that trades for LaVine would be getting a top-tier shot creator, but all of the downsides mentioned by Moore are likely enough to keep potential suitors away, especially with his subpar defensive skills.
