Report: X-rays negative on Baker Mayfield’s injured foot

Even if his foot isn’t feeling its best this morning, Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield has at least taken a step in the right direction.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, X-rays on Mayfield’s injured left foot have come back negative following Sunday’s stinging defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers.

Mayfield told reporters following the Week 5 outing that he injured his ankle when a player landed on it late in the second quarter. After sticking it out through the majority of the second half, finishing with 215 passing yards and an interception on the day, he’d give way to backup PJ Walker—who closed out the game’s remaining three minutes and 10 seconds.

Additional concern about his status arose after the final snap, when he arrived to his post-game press conference in a walking boot.

We will now await the results of Mayfield’s MRI, which he’ll undergo at some point today.
