Report: Warriors exploring options of acquiring a high draft pick for Jonathan Kuminga

After their title defense came to an end in the second round of the postseason, the Golden State Warriors will enter a pivotal offseason with multiple question marks that their new-look front office leadership will have to answer in the post-Bob Myers era in the Bay Area.

Questions around Jonathan Kuminga’s future with the Warriors will likely loom over the offseason after the sophomore forward fell out of Steve Kerr’s rotation in the postseason.

With the offseason underway, trade rumors are beginning to buzz around Kuminga’s name. On Wednesday, Jonathan Givony of ESPN reported that Warriors are exploring options to acquire a high draft pick for a young prospect like Kuminga.

With Andrew Wiggins absent, Kuminga stepped up during the closing stretch of his second season, averaging 13.7 points on 60% shooting from the floor with 4.4 boards and 1.8 assists in 24.2 minutes per game over his final 19 games of the 2022-23 campaign.

Despite his strong performance down the stretch, Kuminga only played in 10 games during the postseason, averaging 3.4 points on 54.2% shooting from the field in 6.1 minutes per game.

The Warriors have just a little over a week to prepare for the upcoming draft that is set for Thursday, June 22 in Brooklyn, New York.
