Report: Vikings hiring Greg Manusky as linebackers coach

After serving as the defensive quality control assistant for Kentucky over the last two seasons, Greg Manusky is expected to make the trek back to the NFL as the new inside linebackers coach for the Minnesota Vikings, according to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson.

Manusky will serve on head coach Kevin O’Connell’s staff as an inside linebackers coach under newly-hired defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. With all of the talk surrounding hybrid defenses, his job will be key in helping Donatell teach and install a multiple-front look.

Before coaching at Kentucky, Manusky spent four years with the Washington Commanders as a defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach. That stint followed previous jobs as a defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Chargers.

So he’ll come to the team with plenty of experience.

The connection with the Commanders obviously links back to O’Connell, who was still with the team at the time serving as the quarterbacks coach. Quarterback Kirk Cousins was also there at the same time as Manusky.

In many ways, this is quickly becoming a bit of a reunion for O’Connell with previous coaches he’s worked with and trusted in the past.

Hopefully, it leads to big things when the team steps back onto the field in 2022.
