Report: Veteran TE Anthony Firkser agrees to deal with Patriots

Things just got deeper at the tight end position for the New England Patriots with the team reportedly agreeing to terms on a deal with veteran Anthony Firkser.

Historians likely remember Firkser helping drive a stake into the hearts of Patriots fans in Tom Brady’s final game with the team in the wild card round of the playoffs in the 2019 season. He hauled in two receptions for 23 yards and one of only two touchdowns scored by the Titans in that game.

Those numbers won’t necessarily blow anyone away, but Firkser has a tendency to show up when it counts.

He’s also capable of lining up in the backfield. So don’t sleep on the possibility of him getting in on a little fullback action for a Patriots team that’ll be hell-bent on running the ball down their opponent’s throat.

He played in 11 games last season for the Atlanta Falcons and hauled in nine receptions for 100 yards.

The Patriots already have Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki as their top-two options at the tight end position. That means Firkser might have to compete with the likes of Matt Sokol, Johnny Lumpkin and Scotty Washington for that third tight end spot.
