Report: Tyrese Maxey Set For MRI After 76ers Star Exits Early vs. Bucks

76ers star Tyrese Maxey is set to undergo further testing after suffering a left foot injury during Friday’s game against the Bucks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Maxey sustained the injury on a foul late in the second quarter, and managed to shoot his free throws before exiting the contest. He headed straight to the locker room. According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, the 22-year-old appeared in noticeable pain as he hopped up the ramp on his left leg.

Wojnarowski reported Maxey’s X-rays came back negative, but noted that the standout guard is scheduled for MRI on Saturday prior to the Sixers’ home game against the Timberwolves.

At the time of his exit, Maxey was in the midst of compiling another impressive stat line in just 21 minutes of action, scoring 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. He also chipped in four rebounds, five assists and a block.

While the extent of Maxey’s injury remains unknown, the timing couldn’t have been worse for the third-year pro as he looks to build on what has been shaping to be a career year. The rising star has also played a pivotal role for Philadelphia in the absence of All-Star James Harden, who’s expected to miss extended time after being diagnosed with a foot injury following a loss to the Wizards on Nov. 2.

Maxey, the 21st overall pick in 2020, has displayed his promising two-way potential in his first full year as the 76ers starting point guard. Entering Friday’s game, the third-year pro boasted averages of 22.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game on 44.8/40.8/75 splits.
