The Oklahoma City Thunder converted two-way player Lindy Waters III into a standard NBA contract.
The Thunder signed Waters to a two-year, $3.8 million deal with a team option for the 2023-24 season, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The move comes roughly 12 hours after the Thunder surprisingly waived Eugene Omoruyi, who was signed to a standard deal two weeks prior.
This move gives Waters financial security after being on a two-way deal over the last two seasons. The timing of this news is impeccable: Waters III scored a season-high 12 points against the Sacramento Kings and 18 points for the G League’s OKC Blue on Sunday.
In 25 games, Waters is averaging 4.4 points and is shooting 36.9% from 3 on 3.4 attempts.
The Thunder have an open two-way spot on the roster with Waters’ graduation to the 15-man roster. The other two-way spot is occupied by Olivier Sarr, who has not played for the Thunder this season.
