So you’re saying there’s a chance: Tennessee Titans veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill reportedly had successful ankle surgery this week and is considered a “long shot” to return this season.
The news comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who reports the Titans signal-caller will undergo rehab in the hopes he can return in the next few weeks.
This comes of the heels of Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky reporting that Tannehill would “very likely” miss the rest of the season with his ankle injury.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tannehill made a trip down to Alabama to have a “tightrope surgical procedure” that has a best-case scenario of him being ready to play by Week 18.
Sure, that’s a tiny sliver of hope, but Tannehill has also proven himself to be a tough dude during his time in Nashville, so that adds to the idea he can pull this off.
Tannehill re-injured his ankle on the first drive of the Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. His previous ankle issue sidelined him for two games in Weeks 8 and 9.
The fact that the Titans haven’t placed Tannehill on IR shows they believe he has at least a shot to get back. Quarterback Malik Willis will take over in his absence after starting the two previous games Tannehill missed.
Unfortunately, the rookie enters a precarious situation, with Tennessee on the verge of collapse in the AFC South and missing its two best starters on an offensive line that has been terrible with them.
