Things have been mostly quiet on the DeAndre Hopkins front after he met with the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots earlier this month, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently provided somewhat of an update.
According to Fowler (H/T Tom Brew of All Titans), the Titans remain “pretty well positioned” in their pursuit of Hopkins.
“I’ve checked on this just recently and I was told the Tennessee Titans are still pretty well positioned here,” Fowler reported. “They’re in the mix, and certainly they have a high level of interest from head coach Mike Vrabel on.
“They had a good visit with him a few weeks ago. So they remain in contact, as do the New England Patriots, so both teams are still at the forefront.”
Per reports, the Titans and Pats remain the only two teams who have hosted Hopkins for a visit, so it looks like a two-team race. If that’s the case, and all things are mostly equal with the money, I love the Titans’ chances of getting him because Tennessee sports a better quarterback and roster overall.
However, if Super Bowl contenders like the Buffalo Bills and/or Kansas City Chiefs start jumping into the mix and scrape up money that’s close or equal to whatever offers Tennessee and New England have, that would change things drastically.
Hopkins is expected to wait this out and not make a decision until closer to training camp. That will leave ample time for more suitors to jump into the mix. For now, we remain cautiously optimistic.
