Report: Titans have made calls to trade down in first round

While reports have suggested the Tennessee Titans are making calls to trade up from their No. 11 overall pick, a new report says the team has actually been calling teams about a trade back.

According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, the Titans have been inquiring about a trade back rather than a trade up. He also notes that if Tennessee does indeed stay put, drafting a cornerback, quarterback or tackle are all possibilities.

What you need to know: I know the Titans have done the work on the quarterbacks, and some believe they will trade up. What I’ve heard, though, is the calls they’ve actually made have been in an effort to trade down, something they might pull off if the second tackle, the second corner or the right quarterback falls into this spot. If they stick, Tennessee could also draft a guy at any of those positions; if Richardson, Johnson or Gonzalez are there, it’s hard to rule that out.

Bear in mind, this is just what Breer has heard. Chances are the Titans have called anyone and everyone to gauge what they can get in a trade back, as well as what it would take to trade up.

An offer for Titans fans

I firmly believe a trade back is more likely than a trade up, though. Not only would a C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young have to be there at No. 3 for the Titans to even consider it, they’d also have a jump a bunch of teams — some of which need a quarterback — in order to get there.

With a trade back, the Titans can accumulate an extra pick and would still be able to fill their biggest needs at either wide receiver or along the offensive line late in the first round.
