The Houston Texans will not be considering Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to be their fifth full-time coach in team history.
According to Josina Anderson of USA TODAY, the Texans informed Gannon that they were taking him out of consideration for their coaching vacancy.
With Gannon out of the running, that leaves former Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores and former NFL quarterback Josh McCown as the only finalists.
Flores compiled a 24-25 record with the Miami Dolphins over his past three seasons, including leading the Dolphins to consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2002-03.
McCown retired after the 2020 season, which he spent with the Texans, and was out of football entirely. The Texans interviewed McCown for their coaching vacancy last offseason before settling on David Culley, who was fired after a 4-13 campaign.
