Kevin Durant missed his eagerly anticipated home debut with the Suns on Wednesday after injuring himself during warmups. The superstar forward was reportedly seen in a walking boot leaving Footprint Center after suffering the injury.
During warmups, Durant went down after a drive to the basket. He would finish the warmup, but was then scratched from the lineup due to “left ankle soreness,” per Kellan Olsen of Arizona Sports.
Now, according to a report by The Arizona Republic, the team is concerned that Durant may have a grade 2 ankle sprain, which could keep him out through the rest of the regular season and potentially into the start of playoffs. He is set to have an MRI on the ankle on Thursday, ESPN reports.
The timeline for that level of ankle sprain is four-to-six weeks, and the Suns' regular season finale is on April 9. The team has 16 games remaining on the regular season schedule, and have played just three with Durant in the lineup after the blockbuster trade to acquire him from the Nets. Durant missed 20 games with Brooklyn and Phoenix after suffering an early January knee injury.
