UFC middleweight Darren Till was arrested last month in Stockholm after police there busted him for drunk driving.
According to Swedish national newspaper Expressen, which cited a police report, the arrest occurred on the night of July 31 after Till was pulled over for speeding in a silver Audi with English registration plates. A woman also was present with Till; they both got out of the car.
According to police, Till initially stated that the woman was behind the wheel after she said it was Till who drove. Till told police that he “drank one to two beers” while at a restaurant. Police observed Till to be “noticeably intoxicated,” and he submitted to a breath test for alcohol, which came back three times above the legal limit.
Till eventually retracted his statement and admitted to driving drunk. He accepted the penalty order, which wasn’t disclosed.
Till, 29, has spent a lot of time this year training with rising UFC star Khamzat Chimaev at Allstars Training Center in Stockholm. Till had been scheduled to fight Jack Hermansson on July 23 in London but was forced to withdraw because of an injury.
A former UFC welterweight title challenger, Till has lost four of his past five fights, a downswing that began with his September 2018 loss to then-champion Tyron Woodley. Till hasn’t fought since September 2021 when he lost by third-round submission to Derek Brunson.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Till spoke about returning to the UFC before 2022 ends and expressed optimism that he’ll return to form.
“I want to have two fights by the end of this year,” Till said. “Two fights, and then next year’s a big year. The comeback is on.”
