Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos is the newest potential bidder for the Commanders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Brian Windhorst. He has recently toured the team’s stadium and training facility.
This marks the third known group that is looking into buying the Washington franchise. Other bidders include 76ers owner Josh Harris and Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta, per ESPN. It has been reported by The Washington Post that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has looked into possibly becoming a bidder. Bezos also owns The Post.
Apostolopoulos is the founder of Six Ventures Inc., a private equity venture fund, and has also explored possibly buying the Hornets from current owner Michael Jordan.
The Commanders, owned by Dan and Tanya Snyder, would be expected to sell for at least $5 billion, with the possibility of the price tag reaching $6 billion or $7 billion, per a November report from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
