Quarterback is the top priority of the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason so it only makes sense that even with Kenny Pickett in the fold, we expect the front office to bring in some competition. The free agent we thought would be the best fit is former Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill and now according to Mike Garofolo, Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, so do the Steelers.
According to the trio, the expectation is with new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith having a history with Tannehill that he will be a serious consideration.
With new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, the expectation is Pittsburgh will explore adding free agent Ryan Tannehill, who had his best years with the Titans while Smith was the OC there.
Smith was the offensive coordinator of the Titans for two seasons and during those two seasons, Tannehill was great and even won Comeback Player of the Year. With the premium being paid to top quarterbacks, Tannehill might be a nice balance between what a guy like Kirk Cousins will demand and re-signing Mason Rudolph.
Even if Pickett is the long-term answer, Tannehill knows this offense better and would give the Steelers a better chance to win now. In addition, Tannehill has shown he is willing to mentor young quarterbacks which could be helpful beyond the 2024 season.
