Report: Steelers looking to re-sign RB Najee Harris ahead of free agency

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris finished with 1,043 rushing yards to lead the team. It was the fourth time in four seasons Harris has topped 1,000 yards. But in a league where elite running backs are the focal point of their offenses, what Harris is doing could be summed up as very average.

This certainly played a role in why the Steelers didn’t pick up Harris’ fifth-year option and why he could be hitting free agency very soon. But according to Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, there is a “strong possibility” the Steelers re-sign him sooner rather than later.

Frankly, we are torn on whether to keep Harris or not. On one hand, Harris’ effort and energy are hard to match. Harris brings his best every week. This might be the exact reason he shouldn’t come back. If the Steelers are going to lean so heavily on the run game, they need more dynamic playmakers in the backfield who offer the threat of long runs.
