The Steelers are set to enter the 2023 season with their top-three quarterbacks from a year ago after reportedly re-signing Mitch Trubisky on Thursday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Trubisky, who was entering his final year with the team, and Pittsburgh agreed to terms on a two-year extension that will earn him $19.4 million over three years, per Rapoport. The contract could also reportedly net the 28-year-old QB a total of $33 million over the length of the deal “including upside,” according to Rapoport.
Prior to inking his new deal, Trubisky was set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024 after signing a two-year, $14.285 million contract in the ’22 offseason.

Trubisky’s reported deal comes three days after the club reportedly retained another backup in Mason Rudolph, a Steeler since 2018, on a one-year deal. The two, along with rookie Tanner Morgan, are expected to battle it out for the QB2 spot behind incumbent starter Kenny Pickett, the standout second-year signal-caller who usurped Trubisky for the starting role as a rookie ahead of Week 5.
Drafted at No. 2 by the Bears in 2017, Trubisky saw his first sustained action as a starter in Pittsburgh last season since his last campaign with Chicago in 2020. The six-year veteran started in five of his seven appearances, tallying 1,252 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.
