Report: Sean McVay expected to make ‘multiple changes’ to offensive staff

No one was pleased with the way the 2022 season went for the Los Angeles Rams, Sean McVay among them. He called their 5-12 season a “professional failure” on his part, but he wasn’t solely to blame for their struggles.

McVay is officially back with the Rams for the 2023 season but his coaching staff could look fairly different. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, McVay is expected to make several changes to his offensive coaching staff.

In the short term, McVay will address his coaching staff. Sources said multiple changes on the offensive staff are likely.

The Rams have already watched Liam Coen leave his job as the offensive coordinator, heading back to Kentucky for the second time in three years. Mike LaFleur is reportedly joining the Rams’ staff, though it’s not clear what role he’ll have or whether he’ll be the new offensive coordinator.

Thomas Brown, McVay’s assistant head coach and TEs coach, could also be on his way out after landing an interview with the Texans. He’d be a big loss for the Rams as an up-and-coming coach in L.A.

Offensive line coach Kevin Carberry, offensive assistants Nick Jones and Zak Kromer, senior offensive assistant Greg Olson, QBs coach/pass game coordinator Zac Robinson and WRs coach Eric Yarber are all on McVay’s staff offensively.

Jake Peetz, another offensive assistant, was expected to become Nebraska’s QBs coach back in November but he decided to stay with the Rams. It remains to be seen if he’ll be kept on McVay’s staff, however.
